Rybakina who has the most match wins on the tour this season was due to face Jasmine Paolini this afternoon in the second Quarter-Final. But has stomach flu (gastrointestinal illness/GNI) so has decided to withdraw.
She has previously struggled with illness including prior to the Australian Open which meant her winning in Brisbane was a shock to her. She also had issues last season when playing some of her best tennis at Roland Garros which took a number of months to recover from.
The hope will be that she now moves on to Indian Wells with a clean bill of health where she defends her title. Paolini now moves onto her first WTA 1000 semi-final with Marketa Vondrousova or Sorana Cirstea next up so a big chance is there.
