Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu has been forced to withdraw from the Mutua Madrid Open after suffering an injury.
The official Twitter account of the Mutua Madrid Open has revealed that the 20-year-old Brit has withdrawn following an injury in her right hand prior to her first round match.
Yesterday saw Raducanu in a bizarre pre-tournament press conference where she only uttered 58 words throughout the whole three minute seemingly ordeal with Simon Briggs and Mike Dickson, prominent tennis journalists.
She could've played Iga Swiatek in the second round in a bumper tie but now is back to the drawing board again with another injury hampering her progress.
It is a short turn-around to the Internazionali BNL d'Italia Rome followed by Roland Garros and it is unknown yet whether this will see her out of these two tournaments or is merely precaution with no signs of it in a thrashing against Jelena Ostapenko in Stuttgart.
"Emma Raducanu withdraws from the Mutua Madrid Open due to injury in her right hand. Get well soon!" The post reads.
