Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the Miami Open which is set to begin on March 19 with the former US Open champion unfortunately suffering an injury blow ahead of the second part of the so-called Sunshine Double.
Raducanu was expected to be in first round action against Wang Xiyu on Tuesday and could've faced Anna Kalinskaya in the second round who reached the Dubai final. But has a lower back injury which sees her withdraw after receiving a wildcard based off IMG running the tournament who manage her.
Raducanu showed good signs during Indian Wells being defeated 6-3, 7-5 by Aryna Sabalenka in the third round. But she still fell in the rankings this week due to not defending her fourth round. The only silver lining to this withdrawal is that the Brit won't have any points to defend for some time so won't be too much of a blow.
But it is the latest injury to blight the Brit who had surgery on both wrists last year and only returned at the turn of the year. Raducanu's next destination is uncertain on whether this is a mere precaution or something more serious. She was due to play in the Billie Jean King Cup from April 12-13 but it is now uncertain whether she will play. Then her next tournament is likely the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart which she will likely prioritise given that she is a brand ambassador and has already received a spot in the draw.
