World number three
Coco Gauff became the first American tennis
player to book her place in the Summer Olympics. The mega-event will be
organised from July 26 to August 11 in the capital city of France — Paris.
As per the recent report, Gauff became the first American
tennis player to qualify for the mega-event. She managed to do that after an
impressive outing in the recently concluded WTA 1000 event —
Indian Wells. This
will be the first time when she will play in the mega-event.
Earlier this year, Gauff stated that winning a gold medal
for her country in the Summer Olympics in 2024 is one of her big objectives.
“One of the goals I wrote down on my vision thing, vision
note, in my phone, was to win a medal in the Olympics,” she said. “I’ll be
completely honest, I don’t really care what event it is in. I feel like a gold,
silver or bronze, whatever medal it is, is one of those things it doesn’t
matter. Well, it does matter.
"Obviously, I want to win in singles. I feel like I would
appreciate it just as much whether it was in singles or doubles. It’s not the
same to me as a Slam, I guess, in a way. I just put ‘I want a medal at any of
the events.’”
Gauff’s journey in Indian Wells came to an end as she
lost to Greece’s Maria Sakkari in the semifinal with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.
