Australia’s doubles tennis star
Storm Hunter faced a crazy 36
hours as she went from
Indian Wells to the
Miami Open. The 29-year-old participated
in the doubles category in the Indian Wells where she played in the final of
the competition on Saturday.
In that final, she and her partner Katerina Siniakova ended up
on the losing side to the pair of Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens of
Belgium in the straight set with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Hunter then made a 36-hour crazy journey from there to play
in the Miami Open qualifiers in the singles category. She ended up missing a
flight in the middle as well.
Hunter had her first qualifying round match on Sunday where
she managed to defeat France’s Alize Cornet with a score of 7-6, 2-6, 6-4.
The Rockhampton City-born then went on to defeat Germany’s Jule
Niemeier in the second qualifying round fixture on Monday with a score of 6-4,
7-5 which ensured her place in the main draw of the competition.
The Miami Open is a WTA 1000 event that will be played from March
19-31 in Florida where players from all over the world will participate to showcase
their talent. Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova won the competition last year
after defeating Elena Rybakina in the final in straight sets with a score of
7-6, 6-2.
