Tennis star
Novak Djokovic continues to add more accolades to his already illustrious resume, as the Serbian achieved a new milestone that showcases his longevity and dominance on the ATP Tour.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion has reached the summit of the tennis world, and currently sits as the World No.1 on the ATP Ranking table. Despite losing in the fourth round at the 2024 Indian Wells Open, Djokovic has maintained his position as World No.1, extending his stay atop the rankings to a record 417 total weeks.
Eight cumulative years and counting as the World No.1 for the Serbian
Djokovic has set a record that will likely not be broken anytime soon. The Belgrade native has spent a total of eight years in total as World No.1, and will retain that position despite skipping the upcoming
Miami Open. The 36-year old has shattered the record held by Swiss Maestro
Roger Federer, who previously held the record for total time spent as World No.1 at 5.95 years.
Rafael Nadal, the third member of the Big Three, has spent 4.01 years in total as the World No.1.
With Djokovic showing little sign of slowing down, it appears he will continue to put more distance between himself and his rivals. The reigning US Open champion has surpassed legends from different eras in his quest to extend his lead as the World's best player, passing the likes of Pete Sampras (5.48 years), Ivan Lendl (5.18 years) and Jimmy Connors (5.14 years) in total time spent as the World No.1 on the ATP Tour.
