Emma Raducanu has been dealt another blow with the Brit being confirmed to be missing the Wuhan Open due to injury and subsequently her first tilt at playing qualifying since her return also goes.
Raducanu was due to play qualifying at the tournament after previously snubbing this route in favour of waiting for wildcards. But for this one in particular, it was always going to be an uphill struggle after she got injured last week.
The 21-year-old has gone through a renaissance in 2024. But at the same time has perhaps left facets of her game on the table. She has decided for a lighter schedule than most taking months off at a time in order to not push herself too much after injury.
But while this is the case, her momentum was halted anyway last week as she got injured at the Korea Open picking up an ankle injury in her last 16 match against Yue Yuan. She still managed to come through the match. But she was hampered against Daria Kasatkina. She went on to retire hurt.
She then missed the China Open on the subsequent week. “Hello, last week in Seoul I sprained some ligaments in my foot which unfortunately need some more time to heal,” she wrote. “It means I can’t play in Beijing (China Open) but I hope to be back competing as soon as I can.”
It seems with it will be a while until she returns to action with the Hong Kong Open likely next for the Brit.
