Former Emma Raducanu’s coach Mark Petchey is reportedly working with the Brit once again, according to journalist James Gray. Petchey previously coached the 2021 US Open champion before her maiden major title, and this week he was seen back on court with her.
The former world No. 10 had a brief partnership with Vladimir Platenik, lasting only two weeks. The split occurred because they ‘weren’t going in the right direction,’ according to a statement from Raducanu.
Petchey, who has also worked with Great Britain’s LTA, was spotted in Raducanu’s box during her second-round match against eighth seed Emma Navarro. The former US Open champion has now reached the Round of 32 after defeating Sayaka Ishii and then Navarro — her first win over a top-10 player on hard courts.
Since winning the Flushing Meadows title at just 18 years old in 2021, Raducanu has worked with eight different coaches. Now, at 21, she’s chosen to reunite with a familiar face, though it’s unclear if the partnership will be long-term.
Petchey, currently working with Tennis Channel this week, has managed to find time to assist Raducanu in some training sessions. The current world No. 60 is preparing to face American McCartney Kessler this Sunday, a player she has never faced before.
