Nick Kyrgios jokes about advice given to Andy Murray to improve Novak Djokovic’s game The 24-time Grand Slam champion defeated Rinky Hijikata 6-0, 7-6(1) to advance to the third round of the Miami Open.
This is the third tournament of the year in which Murray is accompanying his former rival, now as a coach. Nole announced their partnership in late 2024 and hopes to remain with Murray at least until Roland Garros – and possibly until Wimbledon, at least initially.
The official ATP account on social media shared a remarkable ‘inside-out’ backhand shot from Djokovic against Hijikata, which ended in a stunning point for the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
Kyrgios, always active on social media, reposted the 'trademark Novak Djokovic' on his X account and commented on what he would have advised Andy Murray to improve Djokovic's game. “I told Andy [Murray] before the match he has to get back to redirecting that backhand man,” he wrote.
Djokovic returned to winning ways after a three-match losing streak, dating back to his semifinal injury at the Australian Open against Alexander Zverev, followed by losses to Matteo Berrettini at the Qatar Open and Botic van de Zandschulp. The 6-time Miami Open champion will now face a surprise opponent, Argentine lucky loser Camilo Ugo Carabelli, who eliminated 32nd seed Alex Michelsen.
