Eugenie Bouchard made a comfortable debut in the qualifying rounds derrotando aa Kimberly Hui por 6-2, 6-3 as she aims to secure a spot in the main draw of her first Grand Slam since 2020.

The Canadian tennis player had participated in 27 main draws of Grand Slam tournaments between 2013 and 2020. Bouchard's notable achievements include reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros in 2014, as well as the Wimbledon final where she faced a defeat against Czech player Petra Kvitova.

This week, she started her participation in the US Open qualifying rounds with a straightforward victory over 18-year-old Katherine Hui, winning with a score of 6-2, 6-3. Bouchard has accumulated 43 wins and 26 losses in Grand Slam tournaments, which translates to a 62% success rate. Her participation in the 2020 Roland Garros ended in the third round with a defeat against eventual champion Iga Swiatek, who went on to secure her first Grand Slam title.

Since then, Bouchard has competed in the qualifying rounds of a Grand Slam five times, three of which have taken place this year, including the ongoing Flushing Meadows tournament. However, she has never advanced to the final round of qualification.

The 29-year-old tennis player's ranking had dropped to as low as world No. X, but she has demonstrated improvements in her game, gradually climbing her way back up the rankings. Her current position at world No. 216 is the highest she has held since October 2021.

In the second round of qualifiers, she will face the 12th seed Dayana Yastremska, who also secured a comfortable victory against British player Heather Watson with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
