Eugenie Bouchard retires in round one Transylvania Open match against Kalinina

Eugenie Bouchard accepted a wild card entry into the Transylvania Open hoping to get some more playing but it did not go well.

She started the match well having a break point in the first return game however soon after Kalinina established control of the match. The Ukrainian proved better at striking the ball from the baseline although it was a fiercely competitive match with plenty of deuces.

Bouchard did break back to make it 3-3 but Kalinina eventually took the lead once more and closed out the set 6-3. Bouchard then retired from the match. She only recently returned from a lengthy absence due to injuries.
