"Every match I smell it": Ostapenko says weed smell from Court 17 no surprise

Jelena Ostapenko will face Iga Swiatek in a top tie in the Last 16 of the US Open, but as well as that clash, the topic of Snoop Dogg's living room as Alexander Zverev called it came up.
Ostapenko said that from her perspective she isn't shocked as she smells it every match anyway.
"Every match I smell it. It's not a surprise they were complaining about," Ostapenko said during her post-match press conference.
But as well as that drama, she also kicked out a fan during her clash with Bernarda Pera in only a fashion that Ostapenko can.
"Yeah, today there was a little bit crazy situation, yeah, when a fan was shouting during the serves, which he's not supposed to do," she added.
"I was leading 4-1 in the third set, and then suddenly, I served a serve and he started to shout like crazy," she noted. "Of course, the chair umpire told him to be quiet."
But next up is Swiatek, as ever though the former Roland Garros champion isn't lacking in confidence saying she has nothing to lose and will just go for it.
"I mean, she's playing quite consistent. She's winning a lot of matches. It's also not easy to be No. 1 because everybody obviously wants to beat you. I probably will take advantage of that."
"I'm just going to play my game and focus more on myself. For sure, it's going to be a difficult match. On the other hand, I have nothing to lose, and I'm already in the fourth round. I think it's a good achievement, especially at the end of the year. I'm just going to play my best."

- The main difference for bigger names like Alcaraz, Sinner, Zverez, etc. is that they usually make it to the later stages of tournaments while 99% of the other players win a round or two and then move on to the next tournament. The bigger names are playing more, playing longer and therefore more injury issues. The money is great but it all comes with a price!DaveyWavey03-09-2026
