Latvia’s tennis star
Jelena Ostapenko kicks out a loud fan
during the
US Open 2023 clash.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is moving
towards the business end as players are battling to claim the ultimate glory.
During her third-round clash against America’s Bernarda Pera,
Ostapenko was continuously bothered by a loud fan.
The 26-year-old eventually got the last laugh as she waved at
the fan who was made to leave the arena.
Ostapenko went on to win the match despite losing the first
set with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and booked her place in the next round.
The result helped the Riga-born to register her best outing
in the US Open as she will be playing in the fourth round of the mega-event for
the first time.
Previously, she has played in the third round thrice — in 2017,
2018 and 2019 — and on each occasion, she ended on the losing side.
However, things are unlikely to get easier as Ostapenko’s
next opponent is going to be the world number one Poland’s Iga Swiatek.
Interestingly, Ostapenko has a fabulous record while playing
against the top-ranked WTA player as she has won all three matches against her.
