World number one Poland’s
Iga Swiatek has stated that she is
getting used to enjoying the top spot.
The 22-year-old has now held the top spot in the WTA
rankings for the 72nd straight week, an impressive feat to say the
least.
Swiatek, while talking after the US Open third-round encounter
against Czech Republic’s Kaja Juvan, revealed that she has spoken to Switzerland’s
legendary tennis player
Roger Federer to help her enjoy being at the top.
“Honestly, I have to learn how to find more joy in that,”
she said. “I talked to Roger about that last week. The best way to approach it
is really embrace it & be proud of your results.
"For me its like you are
looking into future. I am always thinking about to best play another day. I am glad that I have people in my team that kind of remind
me of the good work I am doing.
"Its good to remember and appreciate the process
and the progress. I am not saying I am used to it but for sure I am learning
how to navigate it.”
Swiatek emerged victorious in a thumping manner against
Juvan in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-1. She will now face Latvia’s Jeļena
Ostapenko in the round of 16 clash on Saturday.
