Former world number four
Jelena Dokic has revealed that she
is feeling better after suffering a freakish eye injury during the 2024
Australian Grand Prix.
The 40-year-old, who retired from the sport back in 2014, in
a post on his official account on the social media platform Instagram, updated
that she is feeling better after the injury.
“A quick little wrap up of the Formula 1 @ausgp weekend with
@mercedesbenzau at their amazing AMG lounge,” she wrote. “Thank you
@mercedesbenzau for having me. Had a blast. And for all those asking, my eye is
all good. I am fine. Thank you for all the lovely messages.”
Dokic, after retiring from the sport a decade back, worked
with Tennis Australia in the media department. She finished her career after
winning six WTA titles. However, her record while playing in the major tournaments
did not make a pretty readying.
Dokic’s most impressive outing while playing at a Grand Slam
came in the year 2000 where she played in the semifinal at Wimbledon and lost to
the former world number one Lindsay Davenport with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
In the doubles category, she played in the final of the
French Open back in 2001 where she and her partner Spain’s Conchita Martínez lost
to the pair of Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez in straight sets with a
score of 6-2, 6-1.
