Simona Halep will play at the
Miami Open which begins on March 20 and sees her first tournament back since the 2022 US Open after close to two years away from the sport ended as her four year ban was quashed and reduced to nine months. This meant that the former World No.1 could return straight away to tennis.
Halep was handed a wildcard to the Miami Open by James Blake as a result and so will play her first tournament back within a week of having her ban ended. Thankfully Halep has been preparing for this eventuality and has continued to train while her ban has continued and the protracted appeal process.
She was spotted though on court practicing in Miami and wrote: "First day back, thank you @miamiopen. Feels like I've never left."
After the merry go round surrounding her testing positive under former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, she is seemingly working with a former ATP top 300 player in Portuguese coach, Joao Monteiro who has been helping her in recent weeks to get ready post suspension. How Halep will do will soon get found out, but it is good to see her back on court and ready for her return next week.
