Former British number one Andrew Castle has slammed the WTA's U-turn on China calling the move abject hypocrisy after what they advertised when it happened.
The WTA took a really harsh stance when the situation around the brief disappearance of Peng Shuai unfolded however they have gone back on their demands recently. According to WTA Chief Steve Simon, they tried but ultimately they had to return in order to do what's best for players and the organisation.
Former player Andrew Castle called it abject hypocrisy and he's not wrong:
“The WTA Tour are going back into China and that is just abject hypocrisy. They said they would not go back until their had been an independent
investigation, but now they have gone back and taken their money. I still feel reticent to consume Chinese products on too many occasions. I just don’t like it.”
The change in policy didn't surprise many as former player Stubbs admitted that it was rather expected and it's true. In the end all anybody cares about is the money and how it affects them personally. Players like Garcia coming out in support of the U-turn calling it good only confirms that in essence nobody really cares.
