Caroline Wozniacki has added to the National Bank Open in her comeback with the Western & Southern Open set to welcome back the Dane 18 years on from her WTA Tour debut.
Wozniacki played at the 2005 Western & Southern Open in 2005 as an unranked 15-year-old wild card and has accepted the chance to return between August 12-20.
Last week, Wozniacki announced her shock intention to return to tennis after retiring in 2020 and having two children with husband and former NBA player David Lee.
For the former World No.1, she believes she has unfinished business with the sport and cited fellow mothers, Kim Clijsters, Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka as inspiration to return and hopes to blaze the trail for further returns.
It was also revealed that she has since been training with Donna Vekic and Simona Halep with one of them receiving a 6-1 set loss to the former Australian Open champion.
She also intends to play mixed doubles with Holger Rune at the 2024 Olympics, but the run-up to the Flushing Meadows is set to see Wozniacki play in at least Montreal and Mason (formerly Cincinnati).
“Caroline coming back to tennis is an exciting story for all of us. The Western & Southern Open is proud to be part of this early stage of her return to the sport,” said Tournament Director Todd Martin.
“Caroline has demonstrated remarkable grace and perseverance over the years, and we are confident that this next stanza of her career will be conducted similarly.”
“I first came to Cincinnati when I was fifteen years old in 2005. I am so happy to be back where I played my first WTA tournament,” Wozniacki said. “A big thank you to the tournament for this opportunity.”
