Muguruza, who won the WTA Finals in Guadalajara a year ago (as a clear fan favorite!), won't comeback for the WTA 1000 event in 2022. Garbiñe, year end top 5 in 2021, will finish 2022 ranked outside the top 50. Crazy.
Garbine Muguruza won't play in Muguruza one year after winning the WTA Finals played on the same courts as this year's WTA 1000 event.
Garbine Muguruza surprised many last year when she won the WTA Finals in Guadalajara but she had an amazing week and enjoyed the biggest crowd support for the Mexican crowd. This year, the courts won't host the WTA Finals but they will host a WTA 1000 event next week and there will be no Muguruza.
The Spaniard recently lost at the San Diego Open and she now pulled out of the event seemingly ending her season early. It's been a shockingly poor season for her where she played only 29 matches so far. Injuries issues and struggle with form saw her win only 12 of those 29 matches and she will finish the year outside of the top 50.
She finished last year in the top 5 when the year ended.
