Coco Gauff had a case of deja vu in taking on Venus Williams as the teenage sensation once again defeated the legendary American.
Gauff defeated Williams at Wimbledon earlier on this year also in the first round and said that the difference between them was that she was more confident this time around and despite being nervous beforehand of sorts, she felt good after.
“I definitely was more confident this time. I think I was used to playing on big courts, so I guess the size of the crowd didn't startle me as much as last time. Definitely a bit more positive coming into this match this time around,” said Gauff.
“I was really nervous before today’s match. That was really difficult, she played really well. It was hard to get aggressive against her. I was trying to put the ball in play, gut it out. I’m glad I was able to get through it. Now I’m feeling great.
“Obviously I look up to them (Venus and Serena Williams). Every time, even just walking by them, I have to remember that even though they're my idols, they're also going to be my opponents sometimes.”
