Gauff will aim for a winning few weeks before playing at the US Open where she has made her name in previous summers and despite playing her first match since the Australian Open, she got some good match practice in with a stern test from Dolehide.

She hit eight aces during the match and won 80 percent of points off her first serve. Also she fought back from a break down in the second set to claim the final three games to win in straight sets.

Next up will be a match to watch as she faces the hard hitting Belarusian, Aryna Sabalenka, the No.2 seed for the first time.

Also through include the likes of Cici Bellis who was impressive against Francesca di Lorenzo. As well as Olga Govortsova who saw off Bethanie Mattek-Sands in straight sets while Yulia Putintseva also made a winning start against Ajla Tomljanovic.
