Gauff rolls past Jabeur for first Roland Garros quarterfinal in only 53 minutes

Coco Gauff has put forward her best performance so far against Ons Jabeur whom she defeated 6-3 6-1 for a spot in the Roland Garros quarterfinal.

Gauff has been one of the standout performers in the past several weeks ever since her good run at the Rome Masters. She is playing with new confidence which is centred around not thinking too much and simply playing tennis. Now she is through to the first Roland Garros quarterfinal after defeating Ons Jabeur.

The American came out strong in the match breaking Ons early in the match to take a 3-0 lead. Gauff dictated the tempo with her great return forcing Jabeur to defend which is something she does not do well. She could have added another break at 0-3 but Jabeur held her nerve. It did not matter much as Gauff closed it out with 6-3.

The American was serving extremely well dropping only 5 points on her serve in the first set. She can get into trouble when her serve is off but today it worked and it was a major factor in this match. She continued to serve well in the 2nd set as well this time dropping only 3 points in total. She did not allow a single break point in the match.

On return, she once again forced Jabeur on the defence fairly early in rallies and from there it was a very easy path to victory. Gauff was even more impressive in the 2nd set winning 6-1.
