Keeping us guessing until the very end 😮 After the tightest of battles, it’s @karomuchova7 who prevails against world No.2 Sabalenka 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 7-5 to make her first Grand Slam final. #RolandGarros
As well as being over on the court, a small sigh of relief will be echoed by Aryna Sabalenka off it with continued questioning by reporters surrounding President Lukashenko, the war in Ukraine has led to her skipping many press conferences.
Speaking at her final one of the tournament, Sabalenka admitted looking forward to enjoying herself after an exhausting few weeks which ended with defeat to Karolina Muchova at Roland Garros.
It wasn't to be in terms of the dream final but the World No.2 saw relaxation as a need right now instead of reflecting with sadness.
"But, yeah, I think it's normal to feel exhausted after two weeks of playing nonstop and playing on the clay. It's always physical matches. So I think for the next couple of days I'll be just party hard. Joking (laughter). No, I'll rest, recover, and then, yeah, get back to practicing. Love it.
But this didn't stop reporters also asking again surrounding non tennis related matters and in particular politics with Sabalenka in particular vocal about how sports and politics shouldn't mix.
These statements though have drawn the ire of Marta Kostyuk at the start of the tournament who believed she should use her platform to denounce the war.
"I don't want to talk about politics today. I made all my statements. You have it. I don't want to talk about politics today. Let's just talk about tennis. Give me some rest, please, from politics(smiling)."
