Aryna Sabalenka has confirmed that she will play at
Wimbledon (3 July - 16 July, 2023) for the first time since 2021 after receiving her UK visa.
Alongside Mirra Andreeva, the 16-year-old Russian prodigy, Sabalenka was one of only a few to speak out about not yet receiving her visa.
Delays seemed to occur amid the ban from Russian and Belarusian players being lifted and as of recently, she confirmed that she did not have her visa yet.
But that has now changed with the World No.2 confirming after her
Roland Garros exit that she will return to SW19 next month.
“I received the visa. I can celebrate. I’ll be in London. I can’t wait to go back. I missed it so much last year.”
Last time she played at Wimbledon, she reached the semi-final losing to Karolina Pliskova but since then has become a different player.
She has become one of the leading three players in the world and will go in as one of the favourites.
Albeit after a spurned opportunity on Thursday evening to seal a spot in the final at Roland Garros, with Sabalenka throwing away the tie from match point allowing a famous win for Karolina Muchova.
Now though attention will turn to the grass court season, albeit she is not currently entered into any warm-ups. This likely owing to the doubt of playing at all due to visa troubles.
But now they've been solved, a wildcard might be likely.
