Former World number 4 and Wimbledon semifinalist Johanna Konta won a grass title not long ago which boosted her confidence heading into Wimbledon The British player never gave up on her dream of winning it and she still believes it can happen.
She said:
“The depth of women’s tennis means
there’s a very large group of players who have the opportunity to be a
Grand Slam champion. I
look to try to give myself every opportunity to be part of that group.
I’m still working towards that, I’m still believing in that possibility.
It’s exciting and enjoyable going into any tournament like that, but
especially a Slam.”
The main reason for her confidence is that she finally won a title in Nottingham a few weeks ago ending a drought of several years. It once again proved she enjoys grass the most and that coupled with Wimbledon coming back gives her a lot of joy.
On the grass event she said:
“To have Wimbledon back, it’s going to almost feel like a bit of normality. I’m just looking forward to having fans back. We’re very privileged to have a home Slam and fans help bring back that excitement, you feel the crowd’s energy.”
