Ajla Tomljanović’s run to the fourth round of Wimbledon has brought delight but also a headache.
She sealed her spot in the fourth round on Saturday by fighting back from a set down to defeat former French Open champion Barbora Krejčíková 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
She said:
“Coming in, you’re not seeded so you don’t know what can happen. Even if you are, it’s a slam. There are always upsets. I don’t know what my form was coming in, but I just knew that I could produce good tennis, but actually doing it, it feels really nice. It just kind of confirms that I maybe do belong here.”
She further added:
“I was like (to my father) ‘You thought I’d lose the second round?’ At least book it until Sunday so it’s a good problem to have. I’m not really satisfied with being in the third round and then moving houses. The problem was it’s so hard to find something. London is packed, and I didn’t want to stay an hour away. He was very — he didn’t take it well.”
She finished off with:
“Today when I finished, he’s like, ‘Oh, I have to book again.’ I was like, ‘You’re kidding me?’ He wasn’t kidding, but he managed to book the same. Hotel, so I have a room probably until Tuesday."
