Amanda Anisimova played a superb match to take down Roland Garros finalist
Coco Gauff in three sets after dropping the opening one.
Anisimova was on the verge of taking the opening set tiebreak having a 4-1 lead but she dropped it 7-4. She did not panic but rather continued playing well on the centre court of
Wimbledon beating Gauff 6-2 6-1 in the next two. Speaking after she admitted it was a good win:
“It’s the most special day, I think, of my career. It’s just a huge privilege to play on
this court. Before the match, I was just trying to prepare myself
to soak in this moment whether I win or lose. Winning today is just so
special.”
On the match itself, Anisimova added:
I think the worst thing for a tennis player is to lose 7-6 in the
first set. It's
really important to just bounce back and give everything I have. It was
very easy to do, especially on this court, even though it was extremely
exhausting."
