Sofia Kenin's father's conduct was called out during another loss for the former Australian Open champion at Wednesday against Katie Volynets at the 2024
Miami Open.
Kenin lost in a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win for Volynets and this was compounded by Kenin receiving an informal warning from the chair umpire at one point during a changeover. Her father and long-time coach who returned to his role after her post Grand Slam winning form slump has always been well known for making his feelings known from the box and it nearly got Kenin in trouble.
"Sofia, your father is talking a lot today. He needs to calm down a little bit," the chair umpire told Kenin.
Volynets' aggressive game style proved too much for Kenin who broke her twice in the opening set to take the lead. She continued with this approach and broke Kenin in the very first game of the second, but Kenin broke back. Albeit this was sent to a decider and Volynets came out on top in the all American battle that ensued.
