Johanna Konta has not played for several months with the British player seriously considering whether to continue her career.
It's been a tough couple of years for Konta who did not enjoy a very successful 2021 campaign. Her year started with an abdominal injury that she battled at the start of the year with issues continuing throughout the year. A persistent knee injury has also kept her off the court for a prolonged period of time. The Brit did not play at Wimbledon and missed the US open because of knee issues.
She then battled COVID-19 on top of that and she has not played since. She won't play at the Australian Open either as the Brit is considering whether to continue her tennis career and another thing she has to worry about is heart palpitations. In a recent interview Konta revealed she suffers from them sometimes:
“I have heart palpitations sometimes. Basically, my heartbeat quickens for no reason. I feel a little dizzy. The first time this happened was in Birmingham in 2017; the second time was in Beijing in 2018. The third time was three months ago when I was doing my training block on clay at my home in London. So I wouldn't say that there is a massive common denominator. There have been stressful situations and stress-free situations.”
Konta is having a very difficult time walking away from tennis but not playing major events in the past year was very difficult for her as well. She stressed:
"It was very difficult. There was nothing good and nothing fun about having Covid and having to miss Wimbledon and the Olympics. There is no getting around that. However, I consider myself a happy, positive, and pragmatic person, and I like to take a step back and look at the good things that I have in my life… And at the end of the day, I looked at my life and everything is fine.”
It remains to be seen what will happen in the future.
