Iga Swiatek will have a chance to become the first WTA player to ever defend the Sunshine double if she wins
Indian Wells and Miami like she won last year.
Iga Swiatek had an incredible run last year, a run during which she won over 30 matches in a row. Part of that run was or rather the early beginning of it was her incredible Sunshine double triumph. Swiatek was brilliant during that month taking the title in Indian Wells and Miami. She didn't really face any real challenge in either despite facing some really tough players.
If she does that again this year, she'll become the first woman to ever do it as no other player ever defended the Sunshine double. Players like Clijsters, Azarenka and Graff won the Sunshine double in the past but neither was able to defend it successfully. It's been done on the ATP side though as Djokovic won the double in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
