Diana Shnaider has ended what is a breakout season on the WTA Tour with a fourth title of the year crushing
Katie Boulter 6-1, 6-2 to win the
Hong Kong Open.
The top seed this week, Shnaider who will zoom up towards the top 10 with this win has been utterly imperious at times during this season and has flown up the ranks at the age of 20.
In a tandem with her doubles partner, Mirra Andreeva, she is anchoring not only Russian tennis but also the next generation as she continues to gain titles and experience. But for Boulter despite. a pretty damning loss it is more progress.
The Brit like Jack Draper who also had a superb season has gone from being injury ravaged and always a doubt to even step onto the court to being just on the cusp of the higher echelons of the WTA Rankings.
But the day belonged to Shnaider. She opened strongly racing into a 5-0 lead in the first set before Boulter could even blink no mind hold serve. Shnaider shone through and Boulter couldn't gain a foothold in the next service game either.
Shnaider forced her way to deuce and kept the pressure on to begin set two before forcing another break of serve. She continued with no remorse to punish her service game. Boulter clawed a game back to avoid a bagel though Shnaider was so zoned in that she smashed her racquet at it being not as emphatic as it could've been. But she sealed it still in a crushing fashion to seal a fourth title of the year.
Starting in the opening weeks of the season in Hua Hin, she has added to that in Budapest and Bad Homburg and now Hong Kong. A true talent to watch in 2025.
