"I believe I can play good on clay court": Sakkari confident of chances against Sabalenka in Madrid Open semi-finals

Maria Sakkari is confident that she can beat Aryna Sabalenka in the Madrid Open semi-final which they will contest later today as her clay tennis is pretty decent.

Sakkari had some of the biggest moments of her career on a clay court. She reached the grand slam semi-final a few years ago losing to Barbora Krejcikova in a very tight match. The Czech player went on to win that event. She also won a trophy on clay a few years ago and it still remains her only trophy so far in her career.

There is optimist for Sakkari ahead of that clash against Sabalenka despite having a negative 3-5 score against her. She confident that she can beat her on clay:

"We all know she's in top form right now. She's the one that is playing the best tennis right now, better than anyone else. Obviously it's not hard court, her favorite surface, but she won this tournament and she's playing very good. I believe I can play good on clay court, I believe I can play good here."

Sakkari has a 59 % winning percentage on clay which is a pretty good mark for her. The match will be her first clay matchup against Sabalenka and on that, she further added:

"Let's see how it goes. I'm very curious to see how different it will play compared to other times we've played each other,"
