Danka Kovinic upset
Emma Raducanu at the
Australian Open and the Montenegrin player admitted that she truly believed she could do it.
World No. 74 Danka Kovinic was absolutely thrilled after stunning Emma Raducanu for her maiden Grand Slam third round appearance. The 27-year old Montenegrin player surprised Raducanu 6-4 4-6 6-3 to reach her first 3rd round at a grand slam. Speaking on her Australian Open experience, she said:
"In the first round, I had a difficult match, I played three sets, but I did not feel tired when I went out on the court against the current champion of the US Open. We played at night, the atmosphere in the stands was phenomenal."
She further said:
"I think that the match was in line with the atmosphere. I believed that I could win, I fought from the first to the last point, I had ups and downs, but I did not lose my faith for a single moment. In the end, I finally reached the third round of the biggest tournaments, and in the end there was a little regret, because I did not have enough strength and energy to resist Simona Halep, which was somewhat logical because I did not have the right preparations."
