Classy Caroline Garcia took down Coco Gauff to reach the Quarter-Finals of the 2024 Miami Open in a superb display from the Frenchwoman to win 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 for her best win by ranking since 2022 Cincinnati Open. But Gauff will look to move on quickly and took a small positive from her loss to Garcia.
Gauff spoke to the media afterwards and said that while she could've done better and that will weigh on her mind being in her own bed and simply being able to drive home being a Florida native does help in terms of getting over her disappointment. But she is looking ahead to the claycourt season and putting the hard court swing behind her.
During that time, she has lost to Maria Sakkari, Anna Kalinskaya and Katerina Siniakova, she dodged a bullet against Clara Burel also in Indian Wells and now has been defeated by Garcia. Two out of the three of those came in the latter stages, but would've still been expected wins so Gauff will take some positives and some negatives from this swing.
"I'm the type of person every loss weighs on me heavy, especially one like today where I felt like I could have done better and I felt like I had the match in control, especially after the second set," said Gauff.
"Honestly, if anything, it helps being home so I can just drive and be home and be in my own bed. I wish I could have did better this hardcourt season, but I'm excited for clay," she added.
"I'm playing Stuttgart as of now and then obviously Madrid, Rome and the French Open."
