Simona Halep took revenge on Amanda Anisimova as she defeated her in straight-sets to advance to the fourth round of the 2020
Roland Garros.
The 29-years-old Romanian reached the quarterfinals at the last year's Roland Garros. Halep had a comfortable journey to the round of the last 8 and almost looked towards her second title from Paris. However, there she met Amanda Anisimova who showed a brilliant performance and defeated the Romanian. This year, the story was much more different.
Simona Halep is in a top form and she's currently unbeaten for 17 matches. In the third round against Anisimova, she lost only one game and defeated her 6-0, 6-1 in 56 minutes. After the match, she also admitted that she needed to change tactic and so now she is one step closer to winning her 2nd title in Paris again.
"I enjoy a lot being back, and to be in this period, when it actually was my birthday few days ago, to be in Paris, my favorite city, it is very nice," Halep said, during her post-match press conference. "I try to give my best, I try to enjoy the maximum."
"I took the game in my hands," said Halep. "Last year, I was very far from the court, and I played fairly short so [Anisimova] could play her game. When she has time and she has the ball in the right position, she is very, very dangerous and she plays great. So today I think I did a great job changing a little bit the tactic."
"Definitely, she's very young, so she has so many years ahead," Halep said of Anisimova. "She's a great player, and she will be in the top very soon." The Romanian also joke after being asked if she enjoys more playing the Roland Garros in fall or spring? Halep loves to play on the clay, and so as expected she answered in a joking way: "Both of them, maybe it would be possible to have one in May and one in September."
