Uncertainty regarding player health and safety has impacted another high-profile player, as Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has declared she will not be attending this year's US Open.
The World No.30 released a statement on Instagram stating that after much deliberation, she had decided not to participate at this year's event. She appeared despondent, stating that she had never missed a Grand Slam in her entire career.
"The main reason is insecurity, the US Open does not give any guarantees now," Pavlyuchenkova revealed. "I don't feel comfortable flying to America in these conditions."
The former World No.13 joins a list of WTA players who are skipping this year's North American Grand Slam. World No.1
Ashleigh Barty pulled out of the event
a few days ago, and
Simona Halep's participation is
also in doubt. The 2020 US Open is slated to begin on August 31.
