"I don't see the point of stalling it" - Azarenka believes that vaccination will soon be mandatory for players

Following her second round victory over Jasmine Paolini at the 2021 US Open, Victoria Azarenka thanked the fans present for being vaccinated, as this is a requirement for spectators to attend matches in New York.

The two-time Grand Slam champion was asked to elaborate on her statement soon after, as several players have different views on being vaccinated against Covid-19.

"I think that in my opinion, it's inevitable that it will be mandated at some point, like other leagues are doing," said Azarenka. "I don't see the point of stalling it, really, because I think we all want to be safe, we all want to continue doing our jobs, and I know there is a lot of discussions about it."

The Belarusian went on to add that although she respects everyone's opinion, it would have to be grounded in facts and research, not conspiracy theories. This would allow the tennis associations to make the right decisions not just for the players, but also for the numerous fans who gather at these events.
