Stefanos Tsitsipas booked his place in the third round of the 2021
US Open on Wednesday night, defeating
Adrian Mannarino in front of a packed house on Arthur Ashe stadium.
The third seed required two hours and 41 minutes to pull off the 6-3 6-4 6-7(4) 6-0 victory, stifling a Mannarino comeback after the Frenchman won the third set tiebreak. Tsitsipas was dominant on serve, hitting 27 aces to just three double faults.
The Greek star was never broken in the match, saving the sole break point faced with some excellent shot placement. Furthermore, he was superb from the baseline, dictating play with his forehand before finishing points with ease at the net.
Mannarino developed some momentum in the third set, pushing the World No.3 to a tiebreak where his serve-and-volley technique paid off. However, Tsitsipas was quick to recover, completely dominating the final set to secure his spot in the third round. With this victory, the Greek star recorded his 50th win of the season, the most wins by any player on the ATP Tour in 2021.
