Emma Raducanu created many headlines due to her coaching carousel that saw her switch a couple of coaches in a short timeframe.
The Brit found herself winning the US Open and then letting go of her coach which shocked many. It was a widely criticized move that Raducanu defended by saying she needed someone who is used to coaching a pro. Torben Beltz was chosen for that but it didn't work out too well as Raducanu's results suffered. More recently she appointed Tursunov after playing a few events without a coach.
Former grand slam champion Barker warned agaisnt this approach:
“I feel she needs one person that she really trusts and believes in. Every coach comes in with a different mindset, a different way of wanting to play and a different way of teaching. And to me, that would be totally confusing. It would be disruptive before it became effective."
It's a tricky sport for Raducanu but she seems content with Tursunov for now and she showed some glimpses of good play recently.
Barker further commented:
"But I also feel that the pressure that she’s been put under has just been immense."
