Naomi Osaka scored a great win over
Andrea Petkovic and the Japanese player was glad she faced quite a bit of adversity in the match.
Osaka came out on fire in the first set blasting her way rather quickly to the end line of the set. Petkovic was unable to find solutions for Osaka and her ball-striking ability but things changed quite a bit in the 2nd set. Despite taking a 1-0 lead in the set, Osaka lost her serve in the next game giving Petkovic a chance to come back.
She did so and even took a 4-2 lead forcing Osaka to really work hard in order to keep the match away from three sets. She was able to do so but admitted after the match that she learned from Petkovic today. She explained:
“For me I just thought like this is the reason I came and played this
tournament, to get myself in challenging situations. I
felt like I learned from her while I was playing the match. It was really cool how she didn't give up for any point, so I just felt like I should do the same thing and see what happens.”
Osaka will take on Kudermetova tomorrow at 09:00 CET and we will have a report ready for you afterwards.
