Seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams recently revealed she is unable to follow the action at the ongoing Championships, due to her thoughts straying to potentially making a comeback.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion played her last professional tournament at the 2022 US Open, retiring after her third round loss to Ajla Tomljanovic. Williams has since shifted her focus to raising her two children with husband Alexis Ohanian, in addition to investing more time in her business ventures.
Despite her full schedule, the 42-year old revealed she still misses the sport she grew up playing. Williams stated she found it difficult not to miss something that has been a huge part of her life. Furthermore, she admitted to not watching much of the action at Wimbledon as it made her contemplate making a comeback, provided she remains healthy.
"I miss it, and I think that’s normal," she said in an interview with Vanity Fair. "It’s normal to miss something that you’ve done since the day you were born. I just had to turn it off (the Wimbledon quarterfinal matches). It was too hard. Oh my God. I just can’t right now.
"I think as long as I’m healthy, that’s always going to be in the back, back, back, back, back, back, back of my mind. I stay fit. I stay healthy. When I’m watching, it’s like, Okay, well, you could be out there too."
