Ukraine’s tennis star
Elina Svitolina has revealed that she
has finally received the much-awaited green light from her doctors to start training.
The 29-year-old is currently spending time on the sidelines as
she continues to recover from an injury that kept her out of action for some
time.
However, Svitolina, in a story on her official Instagram
account, revealed that she has received a green light from her doctor to start training
again.
"Finally. I received the green light from doctors to
begin training very soon," she stated.
Svitolina will look back at 2023 and will feel good about
her overall performance as she had some impressive outings in the big events.
She ended up playing in the semifinal at Wimbledon but lost
to eventual champion Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova who emerged
victorious with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
Other than that, Svitolina also played in the quarterfinal
of the French Open where she lost to the current world number one Belarus’ Aryna
Sabalenka in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
Svitolina has been extremely vocal about an ongoing armed conflict
between Russia and Ukraine.
She refused to handshake
with Russian and Belarusian players in protest of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
during Wimbledon which became a major talking point on the media and social media.
