Iga Swiatek overcame Ekaterina Alexandrova in a very late match at the
Madrid Open yesterday and she anticipates a tricky day today due to the disrupted sleep pattern.
Like Roland Garros, the Madrid Open has these very late matches that a lot of players don't like. Not only can you end up playing past midnight but it's also something that impacts you the next day as well.
Alexander Zverev prominently slammed organisers last year after his semi-final concluded late which totally disrupted his sleep ahead of the final which he easily lost.
Last night it was Iga Swiatek who played after midnight and she talked about it after the match explaining that it's something that certainly going to have an impact:
“My team says I’ve played at an hour like this, but I don’t remember. It’s tough, you have to sleep in the middle of the day to be fresh in the evening. I think tomorrow will be the toughest day. I’ll use this experience in the future”
