While a trivial matter given how much she earns as a top tennis star, Coco Gauff admitted that the main part that she doesn't like in the sport is how much tax she has to pay.
Gauff, unlike other colleagues, has not decided to siphon her money into a tax haven or move to Monaco to have full reign when it comes to her money. Living in Florida is a more lenient state than others, but still, she said that she wishes she was like she was before in not knowing when she was starting as a teenager. She said she wishes she didn't know just how much is going away. For instance, in winning the US Open, she was set to take home only $1,563,000 out of the $3m cut she got for winning the title. While still a lot of money, it is also a lot she loses out on.
"I've always been aware that I had to pay taxes even when I was a minor but I guess now I’m more aware of how much money is going to the government and it's a lot, so I would say that part, being aware of it, is something I'm not enjoying," said Gauff.
"I've been paying taxes since I’ve been making money. But just now, when I turned 19, my dad has made me more aware of how much I'm paying and how everything works with that world. I wish I could go back to not knowing how much is going away."
