In November of last year, Dmitry Tursunov spoke about
Emma Raducanu and her coaching carousel admitting he would be fearful of taking such a job.
Many months later the Russian signed up to coach Raducanu on a trial basis for the US Open swing. Tursunov has worked with several players in the past helping them which caught the attention of Raducanu and her team. The Russian recently became available after Anett Kontaveit parted ways with him due to his continued VISA issues.
He transformed the career of Kontaveit in the last year helping her become a stable top 10 player who played at the WTA finals as well. Now he'll get a chance to work with Raducanu and help her create balance in a very up and down career so far. In November of last year he spoke about Raducanu admitting he was not a fan of her coaching carousel:
"Now Emma Raducanu, who won the US Open, is laying off the people she worked with. Naturally, everyone is shocked. If someone from her team called me now and asked if I wanted to
train her, I would tremble with fear because you don’t know when you
will be fired.”
Perhaps time made Raducanu more patient and Tursunov more brave. As always, time will tell.
