Canada’s tennis star
Bianca Andreescu believes that she has the talent to beat ‘anybody’ ahead of a major tournament on home soil. The Canadian
Open is set to begin on August 06 in Toronto, where some of the top players
will be playing to secure the ultimate prize.
The 24-year-old was quoted in a report by the Calgary Herald, where she expressed confidence in her talent. Andreescu went on to state that she has enough confidence in her talent to beat ‘anybody’ on a given day. “I’m physically stronger, I’m mentally stronger,” she said. "I’m a completely
different person. I definitely feel like my game is there. If I’m on, I know I
can beat anybody.”
Andreescu has an impressive record while playing at the
mega-event as she won the title in 2019 after her opponent, America’s Serena
Williams was forced to retire from the contest because of an injury. With that,
she became the first player from Canada in the competition’s 55-year history to
lift the title. Talking about it, the Mississauga-born stated how important that
win was in her career and is hoping to produce similar kind of performances
this time around.
“That run meant so, so much for me,” she said. “We’re hoping
to bring those vibes back. I’m feeling my tennis, I’m feeling good physically.
That’s all I can ask for. I’m very excited.” Andreescu broke on to the scene in
2019 when she lifted the US Open at the age of just 19 after beating the former
world number one Serena in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
Since then, not much has gone right for Andreescu, who has struggled with fitness
concerns. Recently, the former world number four played at the Paris Olympics, where in the singles category, her journey came to an end after losing to Croatia’s
Donna Vekic in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
