Britain’s tennis star
Emma Raducanu has credited her mother for
giving her a resilient attitude. The 21-year-old was once regarded as one of
the most highly-rated players to play in women’s tennis, especially when she
lifted the US Open title in 2021 at the age of just 18.
After that victory, Raducanu suffered multiple injuries that ruled her out of action for a long period of time. She returned to the court earlier this year and has been able to register some impressive results as well. Raducanu was recently quoted in a report in which she credited her mother with giving her a resilient-like attitude that gave her the courage to fight tough
circumstances.
“I was very lucky in the way I was brought up,” she said. “I
have faced a lot of challenges, but my mum instilled in me from a young age
resilience, and that’s probably my greatest quality, no matter how bad things
get. I remember all the times in the past where I felt very down or sad, and
knowing that I came out of them gives me confidence, it makes those victories
so much sweeter. If it was just smooth sailing it wouldn’t mean as much. I
think it is crazy what tennis players do. We go through all of this pain and
heartache just for 30 seconds at the end if we win. It’s masochism in a way,
but it is more than worth it.”
