Swiatek Rome 2
Iga Swiatek continued winning matches at Roland Garros beating Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinal and advancing towards the final 6-3 6-2.
It was a solid match from Swiatek overall but nothing spectacular. She did just enough to win the match against an opponent who was splaying well but clearly could not nothing agiant Swiatek. The Polish player has a similar style to Pegula but everything the American does well, Swiatek does better. Add the movement onto that and you have a pretty mig gap between the playres.
The opening set started with the players trading early breaks. Both settled a bit after that but Swiatek clearly had the upper hand. She attacked and went for it with a solid rate of success. Eventually, she took a 5-3 lead and closed it out 6-3 with another break.
She had 19 winners and 16 mistakes compared to Pegula's 7 winners and 14 unforced errors. The 2nd set was pretty similar. It started slow for Swiatek who even had to save a break point in her 2nd service game in the set but after doing that she went up 3-1 with a break. She held her serve for the 4-1 lead and closed out the match with 6-2 in the final set.
