Iga Swiatek played another shaky match losing the opening set but fighting back to win it after Zheng sustained a leg injury 6-7(5) 6-0 6-2.
The first set was a proper battle between two players with very similar styles. Both can serve well and did at times. Both love to attack and did most of the time. Both can hit spectacular winners and did a few times in the match. And bot hare prone to spraying errors and again did that in this match. Swiatek was up 3-0 with a break but lost it. She was up 5-2 and lost it again.
At 5-4, Swiatek served for the set and had 3 set points overall but lost her serve. We ended up in a tiebreak where Swiatek was up 5-2 but lost 5 straight points losing it 5-7. Both had 21 unforced errors but Zheng had two winners more and that was the set. Zheng injured her leg early in the 2nd set and she never looked the same after that.
Swiatek raced to an easy 6-0 finish in the 2nd set and continued playing well in the 3rd. Zheng tried and battled and got a few break points in the 3rd set but Swiatek was able to hold on. She went on to add another break and finish it off with 6-2 after battling for almost three hours. A good win for the former French Open champions as she moves on.
