Swiatek Rome 1
The 2022 Roland Garros was won by Iga Swiatek won secured her 2nd grand slam trophy in her career pushing her winning streak to 35 wins in a row by beating Coco Gauff 6-3 6-1.
It was largely a match where Swiatek dominated. It was expected she would do so because she has been here before and she won one already. It was clear from the start that she was the more calm player as a very erratic Coco Gauff lost her opening service game. From there it was largely cruise-control for her as she cruised to a 6-1 opening set win.
The 2nd set started off well for Gauff who opened up with a more aggressive approach and for a time it really worked. She was up 2-0 early but as soon as Swiatek settled in and refocused a bit more she was able to pull it back to 2-2. She added another break, later on, to take control of the match and finish it off with 6-3. A solid effort from Gauff but in the end, it was simply not enough.
18 winners and 16 unforced errors from Swiatek were simply better than Gauff who had 14 winners and 23 unforced errors. This is the 2nd French Open Swiatke won in her career.
